ELVHIS was founded in 1994, spearheaded by Bernd H. Schwank, the owner and managing director of the Schwank Heater Company in Cologne, Germany. At the time, Schwank recognized the growing potential of luminous heaters, a technology offering improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions for industrial heating applications. His vision was to create an association that would not only support this emerging technology but also establish a strong foothold for luminous heaters in politics and lawmaking.
The initial focus of ELVHIS was on promoting luminous heaters, advocating for their benefits both to industry stakeholders and policymakers. First Milestone: Expanding to Radiant Heating Systems
In 1994, just as the association was solidifying its presence, ELVHIS expanded its scope to include radiant tube heaters, a key technology for industrial applications. This move marked a significant step toward making ELVHIS a comprehensive platform for all types of radiant heating systems. By embracing a broader range of technologies, ELVHIS positioned itself as a leading advocate for sustainable heating solutions in industries ranging from manufacturing to logistics.

In 2024, ELVHIS entered a new phase of growth with the fusion of the Warm Air Industrial Heater Association (EURO-Air), significantly expanding its influence and reach. EURO-Air, known for its work with warm air industrial heaters, brought valuable expertise and an extensive network of industry players to ELVHIS. This strategic merger created an even stronger, more unified voice for the heating industry, allowing the association to address a broader spectrum of heating technologies.
As a result of this fusion, ELVHIS is now one of the most influential global players in the heating systems industry. The association advocates not only for radiant and luminous heating systems but also for a wider range of industrial heating solutions, from warm air systems to the latest advancements in energy-efficient technologies.
